Shield generator "index" changes upon vehicle reload meaning it cannot be relied upon

I am building a huge walker and to determine the angle it is leaning I have decided to use the world relative positions of 2 shield blocks placed in front and behind one another.  This is much easier for me than using the built in pitch return commands.

This works great immediately after placement but when reloading the index values change.  There are 4 shield generators in total and their indices all get switched around after the vehicle is reloaded.

Is this the expected behavior?  I would think not because it removes a lot of possibilities.

edit:
The way to handle this seems to be to find something "uniquely identifying" about the block you are looking for.  Then you count the total amount of blocks of the type you are looking for and loop through them to find the one you want.  It worked for me.
