Tbh, tutorials are great but newbies likely aren't gonna invest in those because they're casual and the game doesn't tell them that you do have to invest lots of time in the game before actualy doing anything worthy even so little.
We should have some kind of tutorial campaign, which missions technicaly are, but even if revamped, the UI and stuff isn't very explicit.
A better idea I can think of, which wouldn't be easy to implement is a campaign tutorial alike the traditional Neter campaign but where you have a "quest log" that guides you toward how you should play the campaign, also notes to what componentes you should have when you're doing something (like a to-do list, when you're doing subsystems (it be weapons (APS/CRAM/Missiles/Lasers) or passive things like a fuel refinery or the upcomming ammo factory)), it be a boat, building or forteress

I noticed that, by giving plenty of easy DWG crafts thumper small missiles instead of weak APS and CRAMs that actualy buffed DWG which shits upon newbies, that was a bad idea
You want OW and DWG to be trivial, and the transition to late game to be smoother, the fact middle game factions are specialist means that you can beat them without actualy trying that hard and as long as they don't hard counter you, you win, and therefore with those designs you may have more difficulties when you fight against later game factions which are more 'generalist' against which your craft may perform better or worse (for example, WF is more difficult for my current faction vessels to fight than TG, LH and SS while WF is supposed to be the 3rd or 4th faction you declare war to but I know people that struggle against SS or TG but easily win against WF)
The difficulty curve should be like an exponential curve with SD being the culpit that nearly only meta can beat while DWG should be trash tier that a full prefab boats should effectively fight against
All the while keeping the crafts fun to fight for both newbies and experieced players which is a hard task I have no suggestions for.

The newbies should be more guided toward what is the better way of doing things, while the tutorials allows them to get an idea of the general concept, given they even do them to begin with; they aren't aware of how to properly do most of that spaghetti and it becomes quickly mendatory especialy in the campaign for them to do proper at least "not too terrible" shell designs (like I was facepalming so hard when I saw DasTactic use very low caliber timed Flak against early DWG fly boats) by they don't know because they are never told what to do and when other players tell them things, they either don't say what's the purpose or reason behind the thing or the newbie doesn't read/listen to that part which is the most important part of the whole thing, it's like using 100% special factor HESH against full wood boats, it's dumb and it's never gonna work, but the customizer says it's strong and experienced players tell you that HESH best shell ftw.
So yeah, at least guiding them to understanding the point of the type of things (like a guide to types of damage that tell you the point of each type of damage and how work special stuff like HESH/Thump, HEAT, HP, etc...)
And now just some text walls we had at some point, something quick, visual or even interactive with demonstrations

Other than that, simply warning the players that they'll have to spend quite a lot of time to get good at the game which is nessecery to go anywhere significant in the campaign or adventure mode which I tbh don't play and it's why I don't input on it.

All solid suggestions. I really like the idea of an in-game to-do list. Even after doing tutorials, there are things you could easily forget. Also, maybe tips and hints could pop up during the early campaign? It would be amazing if they were tailored to the situation too, e.g. if it notices you're using HESH against the DWG then it could pop up with a warning that HESH isn't effective on wooden armour. Or if it notices that it's taking you a long time to kill a ship, it could suggest making explosive head torpedoes since they do big damage without being too hard to setup.

FTD is always going to be a very complicated game (I think that's what everyone who sticks around likes about it the most.) Some ways to gently introduce newbies to the game mechanics would help more to stick around.
