CPU optimisation? Something not working right? getting lag bad on an 8700k

#1
Hey all. I've noticed that if i spawn a lot of ship, or larger ships the game begins to lag; and when damage is applied it lags even more. sometimes, when ships collide, the game stalls or even crashes.

The problem wasnt that bad before when i left the game some months ago, but coming back its nearly unbearable.

Ive tried lowering graphics and screen resolution but that's done nothing; later realized my GPU wasn't even fully being used.

I'm wondering if there's some kind of failed optimization or conflict going on somewhere? it feels like the game is running in 32 bit limits. (reminds me of KSP 32 bit lag/crashes before the devs implemented multi-threaded 64bit)

im certain its not my system; i have an 8700k, 32gb of ram, and a 1060-6GB Strix-OC card (running at bout 60% gpu power when FTD is running).

anyone heard of similar problems, know and solutions?

Welcome to the forums!

I'm running a I3-2120, GTX-950 system with 16gb of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM.

I didn't ever have problems with the game crashing for no reason, I just have problems that I'm running out of CPU power just about everywhere.

Currently I have a 50k block Battleship, as long as its alone (no other ships) I have about 20-30 FPS, as soon as some fighting goes on it drops below 20.
and if missiles are fired at my ship it drops below 10 (I have a lot of flare launchers). But for a 50k ship with a kinda weak CPU it is hardly surprising.

The thing that the game kinda stalls on Ramming is almost normal since it starts calculating a lot of things, (it actually already starts calculating before the impact), But I Haven't had the game crash, like almost ever in 1300 hours.

There might be a thing that it has been tried to optimize the game for potatoes, but they failed to take high ends into account.
There is always a weak-spot if you search Hard enough.

If you fire enough AP at that shield, at some point you're going to come through.

There is no "best" I wouldn't even say there is anything universally good, Good is subjective, I find everything bad even if it's in theory good against this or that.

how many blocks are you spawning when you spawn 'a lot?'  This game has very limited multi-thread support (IIRC as per the last performance oriented patch) so you are limited to the single core performance of you 8700k.  I would definately peak into the graphics again, recent patches altered some of the physics of the game which for some people led to pretty significant drops in performance.  However, many of these are configurable and where were a few other areas where we had some modest performance gains.  This is probably a better question for the discord since a lot of the devs with the insider knowledge on the recent under the hood coding changes could probably offer some insight.
-Do not bring forth an argument as fact that can be disproven with a 10 minute Google search.
