[2.1.6] Turrets don't work on turrets if the first turret has a firing piece

I'm trying to build a fairly compact machine gun with a shield that also points at the enemy, when I ran into a bit of a problem.

Local Weapon Controllers can't use a second layer turret if the first layer has a firing piece on it.

I mean, this is pretty easy to fix by placing another LWC and a wireless receiver, but when you're trying to make compact stuff, 2 blocks is worth alot.

If my ship isn't capable of wiping out every other ship in the game, it's not powerful enough.

I think that may have been mostly to help AA guns on mains be able to function properly with target prio and everything.

Just to confirm, have you tried placing another weapon (say, just a missile controller) on the second turret, and checked to confirm it does not work?

The LWC only controls the first turret, it's perfectly normal.
If you want one LWC to control both turrets, you need to place it between the 2 turrets (in place of the firing piece in fact).

There is only one weapon.
Do what Mizarluke wrote.
I have turrets which work, like having 2 fixed cannons, and 3 turreted ones on a big turret (and the small turrets aren't even attached yet) and it works.
