It seems pretty niche, I was thinking maybe you could use it vs FBTs to try to hit them from underneath and avoid the main bulk of their frontal shielding?

Usually straight ahead is where you'd want the frags to go for the most part so I don't think it's all that useful apart from in a few rare applications.

I use it for ballasted torpedoes, it worked great when I reconfigured the Balao's torpedoes from DW to be exp and 90 elevation frag, ripping holes all the way through ships.
