Ok after finally playing with this mod: The GPP engine power cost is pretty negligible, the only real issue it causes is small designs are suboptimal with fuel (but they were anyway 'cause you always gotta refuel them) primarily because you have a consistent engine power drain that doesnt go away like normal. This would be a problem if I hadn't basically effectively migrated to turbines with an RTG for base load ( thanks draba Smile ).


I quite like the lasers, this mod gives me a reason to use them and the buffed LAMS accuracy means you do not need absurd levels of laser power for baseline lams effectiveness. Old LAMS requires you to have enough power so that once RNG allows for a hit you have to effectively 1 shot the incoming round because you will not get another hit; new LAMS is the inverse, you can reliably hit and therefore sustained maximum damage is no longer a total necessity and you can actually build "burst" LAMS systems.


That's honestly my favourite change. The fact that I don't need to sacrifice a goat to RNGesus before every major battle to hope that my LAMS actually hits its target, now it's actually a contest of laser power VS shell health, and not just spamming lams nodes all over my ships so that AT LEAST ONE of them hits every shot.


My chief complaint is that the LWC changes do not apply to CIWS LWCs, which is unfortunate because a full laser system set up for CIWS duty sounds gooooooood.



Anyway I'm totally cool with the LWC GPP engine power use idea, overall I quite like the changes and though it sounds like a ton of power on paper its really not because you really don't need 40Hz and 10 is tons for cannon based systems and that's a single GPP per gun.



My one concern would be lower tier campaign enemies. I don't think they have the engine power spare to really power their LWC's, so the default 5Hz being "free" would be a good compromise, and then perhaps a more severe ramp up in terms of processing power cost per Hz aim frequency.


Also cost is not going to deter someone from spamming guns; if I desire a 100 gun ship of the line then by golly im going to give it 100 guns.



On another note, I don't suppose you could use this magical balance pass hammer of yours on CRAMs and PACs?
