Combat viable helicopters? - oventoaster955 - 2018-12-05

I've dabbled in helicopters for a bit, and I'm not satisfied with my own builds. I want to have a combat helicopter that can hold it's own weight in battle. Here are my requirements for this chopper:
  • It needs to resemble a helicopter of some fashion. I'm impartial to twin-rotors, single-rotors, or quadcopters.
  • I plan for it to be launched from a battleship, so it can't be excessively big. I'd say max dimensions of 30x9 in length and width. Height doesn't matter, neither does the actual blades.
  • I'd REALLY like to mount some high-caliber guns on it. I've tried various missile configurations, but they just don't seem to cut it.

Here's my old gunship helicopter. It uses articulated main rotor as the real helis do so it enables both up and forward movement. I could probably be developed further to get rid of the side forward heli blades.

It fairly potent vs ships as its low speed shells has some good amount of HE behind a HESH head. It flies overhead and pummels them

Dude! Your helicopter is a beast! I've tried almost all my new builds against it and it shredds everything! I stole your turrets and put them on my fighterplane too.

I'm glad you like it.

Good show on the above helicopter, though the articulated blade doesn't do much.  I tried the same with mine, and in the end it still needs forward thursters, etc I decided it looked a bit better to set the blade angle so it would fly with a constant pitch down without much bouncing.

If you're shooting for fully authentic helicopter motion then a quad-copter is your best bet as FTDs can actually handle those.  i'd also recommend a quad-copter as they best fit the roll of heavily armed/heavily armored gunship you seem to be shooting for furthermore, quad-copter's scale relatively well
